Gallery Internships

gallery imagesThe Highsmith Gallery offers two separate internships for current students. These are offered for Art History credit. The time commitment can vary depending on the credit hours you wish to take.

Highsmith Gallery Intern

1. Intern will begin developing their own understanding about the ‘big picture’ of why art galleries exist and how they function within a community using the Highsmith Gallery as one unique in-progress example.  The Highsmith Gallery has a mission to support artists and veiwers in having meaningful experiences in the gallery.

2. Intern will understand and complete the details to make the gallery run well day to day; some will be creative, some will be repetitive, but all are necessary.

Intercultural Center & Highsmith Gallery Partnership Coordinator

This is a new internship opportunity.

The mission of this partnership is to bridge the spaces located in the Highsmith Gallery and Intercultural Center (IC), which are next door to each other.  Goals of this partnership are to increase student, faculty, staff and visitor traffic through the two spaces and to make the various multi-cultural objects in the IC more accessible. By partnering we hope to leverage our resources thus enhancing what we are able to offer the campus community.

1. Intern will develop various projects to redesign the space in the Intercultural Center as needed to display art and artifacts.

2. Intern will aid in programming arts-based events in collaboration with the Highsmith Gallery and IC.  Events will be planned in partnership with other departments on campus and held in either the IC and/or the Highsmith Gallery to increase student traffic and awareness of spaces.

3. Intern will understand and complete the details to make the IC partnership run well day to day; some will be creative, some will be repetitive, but all are necessary.
